Klopp: We’re good but we can and must be better

-

JURGEN KLOPP believes Liverpool are already better than last season – but the best is yet to come.

He insists the Reds have made improvements this term as they tussle it out with Manchester City at the top of the Premier League. They travel to Watford tomorrow trailing leaders City by two points. At this stage last season they were a whopping 12 points behind.

Although they had scored one goal more, they had conceded 12 more but despite that there is a feeling they have yet to hit top form this season.

They have certainly not hit the heights of the second half of the previous campaign which saw them reach the Champions League final.

“We can improve – we have to and we will,” said Kop boss Klopp.

“But between our best football and now, we have to win football games. That’s how it is and that’s what we’ve done already.

“There’s absolutely no reason for criticising the boys, they do a really good job.

“So many things are better than last year – defending is better, setpieces are better, we’re much more mature in games, game management is better.

“Last year at the same time, we didn’t have 20 good games – we lost at Tottenham in October. It’s all good, I like the season.”

After Watford, Liverpool travel to Paris SaintGermain for a Champions League tie and then it is the Merseyside derby.

They suffered a shock defeat at Red Star Belgrade this month and also lost at Napoli earlier in Group C. But victory in France will secure a place in the knockout stages with a game to spare if Napoli beat Red Star as expected.

Klopp added: “Belgrade, by the way, there is no excuse for that – it was just a really bad game. Napoli wasn’t a really good game as well.

“So there were two days we were really not good, that’s true. All the other games were really good.

“We played against PSG. They have lost one game in the whole season in all competitions and that was against us.

“There’s been a lot of improvement so far and there is space for further improvement.”
