Clunes plays 1st officer to float his boat
MARTIN Clunes never wanted to play a detective – until he saw the part of the officer who caught serial killer Levi Bellfield.
The actor portrays DCI Colin Sutton in three-part ITV drama Manhunt.
The 56-year-old Doc Marten star said: “I’ve always resisted offers of detective dramas – they don’t float my boat. But this was so different.”
Writer Ed Whitmore worked with former Met detective Sutton, whose memoirs are out next year.
The drama, which screens in January, follows the probe into the murders of French student Amelie Delagrange in 2004, Marsha McDonnell in 2003 and Milly Dowler in 2002.
Clunes added: “It was a huge departure to do something like this.”
