Frank’s WW1 letters sale

A FIRST World War soldier’s letters home, including one written after peace broke out, are being sold.

Bombardier Frank Cooling, was in Belgium and France throughout the war with the 21st Heavy Battery of the Royal Garrison Artillery.

Items sent to his family in Hopton, Suffolk, ranged from “I am well” postcards to pages-long letters.

A note the day after the Armistice, said: “French people here seem awfully excited over the news.”

The letters are expected to fetch around £1,000 at auction on November 28.
