Awards for sprint Brits

DINA ASHER-SMITH and Zharnel Hughes were named Athletes of the Year at the British Athletics Writers Association awards.

Asher-Smith, 22, won triple sprint gold at the European Championships, where Hughes was crowned men’s 100m champion.

The pair now turn their attentions to next year’s World Championships and insist they will not be fazed by the step-up in class.

“The Americans and Jamaicans will be there,” said AsherSmith said. “But the pressure is making me work hard and train hard.”
