Hunt’s hope for freedom in ‘spy’ case
JEREMY Hunt said yesterday he is “optimistic” jailed Briton Matthew Hedges will be freed by the United Arab Emirates.
The Foreign Secretary told the BBC’s Andrew Marr show: “I’ve met Daniela, his wife, who is being incredibly brave. I am more optimistic now.
“The UAE is a friend of the UK and I had good conversations with their Foreign Minister. I’m hoping we can find a way.”
Mr Hedges is serving a 25-year sentence for spying and Brit Johnny de Domenico, who was in the Abu Dhabi jail where Mr Hedges is held, said it is a “medieval” hellhole.
Mr Hunt admitted there had been no breakthrough in the case of Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe, who remains in an Iranian jail.
