Mike reckons mate ‘may not cope’ in camp

- BY TOM BRYANT Head of Showbiz and PETER ROBERTSON

HOLLY Willoughby celebrated a triumphant first week on I’m A Celebrity with fish and chips.

The TV host, along with Declan Donnelly, has helped batter the opposition channels with audiences of more than 10 million. NOEL Edmonds’ former Radio 1 colleague Mike Read fears the star will crumble in the jungle.

Mike, first to be voted off during the third series in 2004, believes Noel might struggle to adapt to life in the camp – particularly the trials. He said: “It will certainly be worth watching. He’ll be fine getting flown in by helicopter but I don’t know what else.

“I don’t know how Noel would cope if he was buried underground with 500 rats crawling over him.”

Mike, 71, who is starring with Anne Hegerty in Dick Whittington at Windsor’s Theatre Royal, is also surprised Noel is taking part. He added: “I didn’t think someone like Noel would do something like this.

“I guess they like people who have a point of view that might be contentious.

“If people talk to Noel about his talking to the cosmos and various beliefs he has, it could get interesting, it could get weird, you just don’t know.“

Noel’s unusual beliefs include cosmic ordering – that a person can write down their wishlist and it will become reality. Mike Read
