A third of homes not up to mark
BLASTED Sherwood Lodge MORE than a third of English care homes fail to meet acceptable standards, a probe reveals.
Watchdog the Care Quality Commission found 247 of the 642 homes inspected were inadequate or requiring improvement.
Inspectors found in many cases residents were put in danger by homes.
The findings disappointed Jayne Connery, founder of Care Campaign For The Vulnerable.
She feared the infrequency of CQC checks meant “the likelihood is many other issues potentially exist in those care homes”.
The CQC said one of the worst is Sherwood Lodge in Preston, Lancs, as “the service was not caring”.
The Department of Health said it was committed to quality, safe and compassionate care.
