THIS is the face of the only person to assassinate a British Prime Minister – recreated using his skull and digital technology.

John Bellingham shot PM Spencer Perceval in the lobby of the Palace of Westminster on May 11, 1812.

The struggling merchant, who harboured a grudge against officials, was “hanged and anatomised” just a week after killing the Prime Minister.

Forensic imaging experts at Queen Mary University of London used the anatomy of his skull, which is on display at Barts Pathology Museum, and photos of other human faces to create the image of Bellingham.

Assassin shooting Perceval said: “This is a novel way to engage the public with a previously one-dimensional ‘specimen’. A skull has less of an impact than being able to see the person’s face.” Liverpool-based Bellingham was wrongly jailed in Russia in 1803 for failing to pay a debt. After regularly requesting help from the UK authorities, he returned in 1809 and demanded compensation. After being repeatedly denied, bitter Bellingham, 43, waited in the lobby of Parliament and shot the 49-year-old PM, a father of two, in the heart. Broomfield Hospital in Chelmsford, Essex, said its wards would be out of bounds “until further notice” due to norovirus.

It added in a statement: “The only exceptions will be on compassionate grounds, at the discretion of the nurse in charge.”

Chelmsford council last week urged people to stay away from hospitals if they have symptoms.
