HOWE’S YOUR LUCK, EDDIE?

- BY NEIL McLEMAN

EDDIE HOWE was left to lament a wrongly disallowed goal and Jefferson Lerma’s luck as Bournemouth suffered a third consecutive defeat.

TV replays showed David Brooks was played onside by Shkodran Mustafi when he slotted home after eight minutes. The crucial first goal was then scored into his own net by Colombia midfielder Lerma

– with the club’s record £25million signing also hitting a post late on.

“It could have been very different,” said Cherries boss Howe (above). “We were probably on the wrong end of some decisions and the wrong end of the luck today.

“I think the Brooks goal for one. I haven’t seen it, but I have been told he was onside. I know it was tight.

“In a game like this, you need every bit of luck you can find if you are us and it was missing for us.

“Even their first goal – I don’t think you will see that again. Bizarre. There was nothing Jeff could do about it – he stuck his leg out and it went in. It was the type of luck against us today.

“Jeff’s shot hitting a post late on. It is such fine margins between getting something out of the game and not. He was inches away from being the hero in the end and that is football for you.”

Bournemouth suffered a third consecutive 2-1 defeat after again matching a big team for most of the match.

“It was the same with Manchester United,” added Howe. “We took them to the limit and came away beaten.

“It is very important that a player’s confidence level doesn’t get affected by those two defeats. But we have had a very strong start to the season.

“It is important that we don’t overreact in these moments and keep doing what we are doing and know we will win again soon.”
