good football team who likes to have the ball.

“We showed aggression and spirit to break their possession and pressed high.

“They have done fantastic.”

The visitors were ahead after six minutes with their first attack. Midfielder Philip Billing, who also impressed, released Erik Durm and his cross from the left was expertly despatched by Mooy into the bottom corner from the edge of the box. Wolves tried to get back into the game and had more possession, but often their play broke down in the final third and frustrations rose – among players and fans. Defender Ryan Bennett tried his luck from 35 yards with an optimistic effort that sailed over.

Huddersfield were a major threat at setpieces, with Steve Mounie proving a handful in the air. Terence Kongolo had a header on target at the back post following a well-worked corner Referee ........................ Kevin Friend Attendance ............................ 30,130 between Mooy and Jonathan Hogg.

Mounie nearly made it 2-0 when he nodded down at a corner but Matt Doherty (left) made a crucial block.

Wolves were booed off at the interval having failed to have a shot on target. Unhappy Molineux boss Nuno Espirito Santo responded by replacing Joao Moutinho and Ivan Cavaleiro with Adama Traore and Morgan Gibbs-White for the second half.

It helped stir Wolves into life and they were unlucky not to level in the 57th minute.

Traore crossed and Raul Jimenez’s header at the back post beat keeper Jonas Lossl but was hooked off the line by Billing. Wagner rated the clearance “as important as a goal”.

Billing, 22, had a superb game and went close at the other end with a shot from the edge of the area.

Jimenez blew a golden chance to level and it proved a costly miss when Town doubled their lead in the 74th minute from Mooy’s curling free-kick. final whistle after a third straight home defeat. Huddersfield were worthy winners thanks to quality finishes in either half from star Aaron Mooy. Yet Wolves nearly snatched an equaliser when 1-0 down only to see Raul Jimenez’s header hooked clear (above) when it was 1.8cm from going fully over the line. Defeat means Wolves’ winless run extends to five games and they now have one point from a possible 15. The result lifted Huddersfield, managed by David Wagner (left), up to 14th.

Wolves boss Santo (above) said: “I am very disappointed for everybody. “Today we were very bad and when you play bad you lose. We made mistakes, everybody made mistakes.

“We didn’t have the ball enough. When we had it we lost it. We were not compact, we were too far away from each other. “Credit to Huddersfield because they pressed us well but we needed to find better solutions. We did our homework and we had a game plan. Maybe not the best one. That’s why we will have to analyse it. “We’ve got to find out why this happened.”
