Morgan: I don’t know what warrants a yellow card these days

card and what would not be.

“Because players – and I think this would go for just about every team in the league – are getting booked for things that wouldn’t have been a booking in previous years.

“I’ve had cards this season which I felt weren’t deserved. I’ve won the ball cleanly and got a yellow – so I don’t know where we stand. They need to make it clear.”

In fairness to referee Chris Kavanagh, Maddison’s dismissal after only 28 minutes was not that controversial.

He blatantly hacked down Anthony Knockaert then tried to con his way to a penalty under a challenge from Shane Duffy – and later apologised on social media. The decision did not prevent Leicester making a fine comeback, inspired by substitute Vardy.

“We showed the spirit that we have and we dug deep and got an equaliser,” added Morgan. “Jamie Vardy is always going to have an impact when he comes on and he did exactly that.

“It’s clear for everyone to see that we are willing to battle and fight and scrap – even with 10 men.”

Brighton defender Bernardo, signed for £9millon from RB Leipzig, was named man of the match for the home side on only his second Premier League start. But he admitted that it did not all go to plan.

“It was not the result we were looking for, especially given the circumstances,” he said. “We played well 11 against 11, but in the second half we came back not as focused and we paid an expensive price for it.

“Personally, I think people saw a much better impression of me than on my debut against Watford.

“I still don’t think it’s the best one, I can develop more, but I am learning.”
