FLINT HELPS SPARK BORO’S DRIVE FOR THE TOP

- Judge 75 Hugill 56, Tavernier 61 BY HECTOR NUNNS

BRENTFORD MIDDLESBROUGH 1 2 ADEN FLINT believes Boro’s stingy defence can get them promoted this season.

The central defender and the rest of the back four were visibly upset after letting in a soft Alan Judge goal, although with Jordan Hugill (left) and Marcus Tavernier having scored the lapse was not costly for the visitors and lifted them back into the automatic places.

But Flint has taken to heart manager Tony Pulis’s words that, “Goals win matches, clean sheets win leagues” .

He said: “It was disappointing to let in the goal. We’re taking a real pride in the defensive record this season, and that was only a ninth goal conceded all season in the league.

“It didn’t matter too much this time in the big picture because we still won, but if we didn’t have the two-goal lead it could have cost us.

“We were annoyed how we conceded, we all switched off.” BRENTFORD: BORO: REF:
