David steps in to help out a Friend

-

Coming up on the BBC in December, it’s The One Where Ross From Friends Highlights the Plight of Families Living In Temporary Accommodation At Christmas.

David Schwimmer

Actor has produced a one off drama showcasing the gritty story of a British family in emergency housing during the festive period.

It might seems an unlikely move for the former Friends star, but David took on production duties on the recommendation of his mother-in-law, who is a fan of playwright Alexander Zeldin. Well, he wasn’t going to argue with his motherin-law...

David, who founded his own theatre company in Chicago, became “wonderful friends” with the playwright, and offered to “lend a hand” adapting the National Theatre production of Love, before officially signing up to produce.

The drama follows the struggles of a young couple due to welcome a new baby, who are housed with other strangers left in limbo including a middle aged man and his elderly mother.

Despite hailing almost 4,000 miles from the UK, David was moved by the “fantastic” poignant tales of the bonds of love keeping people together during intensely difficult times.

“This huge gift of allowing those people and their stories who are not as visible to be made visible on someone’s telly is an extraordinary opportunity,” he says, adding the play serves to “illuminate social problems”.

Love airs on BBC Two on Saturday 8th December at 10pm.
