A deal to do

THE mountain Theresa May must climb to persuade the Commons to back her Brexit plan grew even higher yesterday.

Her draft deal was blasted by MPs – including many members of her own party.

The PM’s bodyguards complained Speaker John Bercow did her no favours by calling many of her most vociferous Tory critics in the first hour of yesterday’s statement.

But another of May’s MPs submitting a letter of no confidence in his leader, after studying the plan, will set alarm bells ringing even louder in Downing Street.

Political historians will be studying this tumultuous moment in centuries to come.
