Heathrow to enforce Real Living Wage
HEATHROW Airport is banning zero-hours contracts and insisting that suppliers pay workers the Real Living Wage.
From next month, all contractors must sign up to the voluntary rate of £10.55 an hour in London and £9 outside – compared with the Government’s legal minimum of £7.83.
Heathrow said the move, which will benefit 3,200 staff, will produce “higher morale, productivity and lower turnover”.
Living Wage Foundation director Tess Lanning said: “We now need to see more employers follow Heathrow’s lead and commit to a fair day’s pay for a hard day’s work.”
