Huge jump in people facing life on streets
HOUSING charity Shelter has seen a 44% rise in calls from parents who say their families are at risk of becoming homeless.
Figures out today show an overall 8% spike in calls – more than 10,000 – from those facing homelessness so far this year.
Some have had eviction notices, others were in rent arrears and some had suffered domestic violence.
Emily Dean, of Shelter, said: “We’ve seen a rise in calls from the sharp end of the housing crisis.
“It’s definitely been getting worse in the last year and we expect things to be especially bad over the winter months... as the freezing nights close in.”
