43 YEARS AGO (1975) We reported the IRA’s doorstep assassinat­ion of Record Breakers presenter Ross McWhirter in North London. He was known for being a critic of the terror group. 75 YEARS AGO (1943) Wartime leaders Franklin D. Roosevelt, Winston Churchill and Joseph Stalin met in Tehran, Iran, to discuss strategy. It paved the way for the 1944 D-Day landings. 24 YEARS AGO (1994) Norwegians voted to reject membership of the European Union by 52% to 48% in a referendum. The country voted against joining the EEC in 1972.
