Freed Brit thanks wife who fought to save him
FREED British student Matthew Hedges kisses his “brave, strong” wife who fought for his release from jail in the United Arab Emirates.
Daniela Tejada posted the photo yesterday as he returned to the
UK from the Gulf state which had accused him of spying.
Matthew, 31, said as he landed at Heathrow Airport:
“I could not have done this without Daniela. She is so brave and strong. Seeing her and my family after this ordeal is the best thing.” Matthew, from Exeter, a PhD student at Durham University, was sentenced to life imprisonment last Wednesday after being arrested at Dubai International Airport in May.
But he was pardoned after Daniela, 27, campaigned to free him and Foreign Secretary Jeremy Hunt took up the case with the UAE. Daniela said yesterday: “I am so happy to have my Matt home. No one should ever have to go through what he did.”
