‘Trafficker’s £15m bribe to top cop’

EL Chapo bribed Mexico City’s former chief of police with at least £15million to allow his cartel to operate freely, a US court has heard.

Miguel Angel Martinez, who was formerly El Chapo’s pilot, said he was instructed to deliver money to Guillermo Gonzalez Calderoni in the late 1980s and early 1990s.

Speaking at El Chapo’s trial at Brooklyn’s Federal Court in New York, Martinez spoke of El Chapo’s relationship with the ex-chief of police, who was assassinated in 2003.
