Rooting for Harry

- D L Hughes Warrington, Cheshire

■ My husband and I were very sorry to read on Ros Wynne-Jones’ page on Friday that Second World War veteran and antiausterity campaigner Harry Leslie Smith had suffered a fall in Canada and was ill in hospital.

We send him our love and best wishes.

Harry is such a brilliant writer and inspiration to others – a true hero. Sylvia and Graham Smith, Great Barr Birmingham

■ The reason why Anne Hegerty, Dee McAlinden and Chris Packham were not diagnosed as kids with Asperger’s is the condition was not codified until the early 1990s. And children today can still miss out on a diagnosis, especially as no ‘authority’ swoops down to take care of everything. Parents or guardians have to raise

the issue and that can be long and drawn out.

I agree with reader Maureen Heth regarding Matt Baker (Your Voice, Nov 22). He should be honoured for all his dedication to Children in Need. The amount of money the Rickshaw Challenge has raised is remarkable. He’s great!

I disagree with CC Boyle who wrote in TV Topics (Nov 23) – I don’t think Michael McIntyre is funny. The true greats of comedy, such as Les Dawson, must be turning in their graves at the rubbish being churned out today.
