LIVERPOOL star Tommy Smith was recovering after a car crash left him with four broken ribs. The Anfield hardman was travelling to his Ormskirk home when the car he was driving skidded on black ice, hit a tree and ploughed into a ditch. Smith missed a key UEFA Cup clash with Dynamo Berlin plus a League Cup quarter-final showdown with Tottenham.
