HORRENDOUS, HORRIFIC BUT HILARIOUS

- MATT’S NOT GREAT BY DAVID ANDERSON

STEVEN DEFOUR says it is hard for Burnley to live up to fans’ raised expectations.

Defour (right) knows Sean Dyche’s side raised the bar by finishing seventh last season and by contrast they are now languishing just above the drop zone after their worst start since 1979.

“You set the bar so high for yourself, but also for the fans,” he said.

“We had an exceptional year and everybody wants said. “It’s already started. I’m sure they will keep reminding me. I’m sure it will be on telly all day, every worst misses compilation, the lot. I won’t be able to forget about it.

“I’ll move on, though. I’m a strong character. I’ve had setbacks in my career. I suppose looking at the big picture this is a minor setback.

“I made an error, but the goals will come for sure. “I’d love to score a 30-yarder to make up for it. But really, it’s not about me scoring, it’s about the team winning.”

Luckily Ritchie’s miss did not cost Newcastle as they hung on to win their third straight game and he says they must maintain this level.

“I think we’re up and running now,” he said. to relive that, everybody wants to be as high as possible.

Defour, who only returned in September after eight months out due to injury, said: “I want to be there and help the team as much and as long as I can.”
