Joe won’t quit Three Lions fight
mirror.co.uk/sport/football JOE HART insists he will never close the door on England – and vowed to let his performances do the talking for him.
The Burnley keeper last featured for the Three Lions a year ago, winning his 75th cap against Brazil.
But he paid the price for a disappointing loan spell at West Ham and was left out of Gareth Southgate’s World Cup squad.
Hart faces a massive fight to dislodge Jordan Pickford and overcome the claims of Jack Butland, Alex McCarthy, Marcus Bettinelli and Nick Pope.
He told the Goalkeepers’ Union podcast: “Whether I get picked in an England squad, that’s not down to me unfortunately.
“I’ve had my reasons that I have not been in the squad previous to the World Cup and I don’t know if they quite match up after the World Cup.
“I’m just going to keep performing to my highest level. I always want to play for England, always want to be part of the England team.
“I’ve turned up for my country hundreds and hundreds of times, and managed to play 75 times.
“My recent form for the country is good.”
