3 KLOPP: MIGHTY MO IS AT 100%

- BY DAVID MADDOCK

MO SALAH is back and ready to show that anything PSG’s much-vaunted attack can do, he can do better.

That is the bold prediction of Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp, who is adamant his record-breaking striker has returned to the levels of last season.

It is a mouth-watering Champions’ League clash in Paris, with the Reds’ front three facing off against Neymar, Kylian Mbappe and Edison Cavani.

Yet it is Salah (below, in training yesterday) who tops that awesome list and Klopp reckons the Egypt star has finally overcome niggling injury problems that hindered him at the start of the season.

“The body is back, 100 per cent - his physical things he can rely on,” Klopp said of the moment when it all clicked again for Salah. “Of all the teams, we had the longest season – two weeks longer than the rest.

“After that they all went to a very long World Cup. Egypt went out a little earlier but Mo played 94 or 95 per cent fit because of the shoulder injury. Then the pre-season starts again and he always tried everything. The only thing was his body needed time to adapt. Still a world class player, still a threat in a game, but in the scoring situations not the same calmness, coolness.”

Salah, though, has turned it around spectacularly in recent weeks. After just three goals in his first 11 games this season, he has scored six in his last seven for the Reds, with six of his seven Premier League goals coming when the score was 0-0.

That proves he is a game changer, and Klopp said he could see weeks ago in training that the Egyptian King was back to his lethal best.

“Since before the last international break it was completely obvious in each session {clicks fingers} it clicked again. He’s there,” he said. Liverpool need last season’s 46-goal record breaker more than ever in Paris. Realistically, they need at least a point against PSG to ensure their destiny is in their own hands for the final group game against Napoli.

But Klopp has played down the pressure on his star striker to emulate last season’s record haul.

“You cannot score 40 goals in the first three games and as human beings how can he be convinced 100 per cent that he scores again 40 goals? Is it even important to score 40 goals again? Of course not.

“It was never a problem actually.”
