Putin’s spies hack IT unit fighting him
A SECRETIVE unit set up by Britain to combat Russian espionage against the UK has been hacked by Vladimir Putin’s spies.
The Integrity Initiative’s IT system was breached by the GRU which leaked what it found to Moscow’s state-controlled media.
It comes after the Initiative exposed a string of Kremlin falsehoods.
A source said: “It is seen as a threat... The Russians have had enough.”
The Initiative, which costs £1million a year, provides government departments with details that debunk propaganda.
The Europe-wide network, based in the UK, says its work “attracts the extremely hostile... attention of disinformation actors like the Kremlin”.
