Without care

BRITAIN’S army of carers are the unsung heroes and heroines of this country.

So it is shocking that tens of thousands are being pursued by this Government for overpayments of the Carer’s Allowance.

They are in this situation because of the unclear advice from the Department for Work and Pensions about additional earnings.

Yet ministers are hitting carers with fines or court action. Some have a criminal record as a result. What is criminal here is the complete absence of decency by the DWP.

Ministers should declare an amnesty and show carers the appreciation they deserve.
