Hospital trust linked to baby deaths branded ‘inadequate’

- BY MARTIN BAGOT Health Correspondent INSPECTION

A HOSPITAL trust linked to a host of baby deaths has been slammed by health inspectors in a report.

The Care Quality Commission rated services at Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust as “inadequate”.

The trust, which runs Telford’s Princess Royal and the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital, is in special measures and is being probed over deaths and injuries to mothers and babies after more than 200 concerned families came forward. The CQC is “particularly concerned” about the trust’s emergency department and maternity services. Chief inspector Professor Ted Baker said: “Much work is needed to ensure care is delivered in a way that ensures people are safe.”

The CQC has told the trust it must make changes in 81 areas.

The trust said: “We’ll improve for the people we serve.”
