CHRISTMAS will cost the average family £719 – and one in 10 will pay for it on their credit card.

Many will still be forking out well into the new year, says GoCompare Money.

The price comparison site’s Georgie Frost said: “Christmas is meant to be the most wonderful time but the pressure to overspend can turn it into the most stressful.”

It suggests setting and sticking to a budget and using a card with a period of interest-free credit.

De Niro signs Taxi Driver painting Halifax restaurant “YOU talking to me, love?”

Film legend Robert De Niro gives Halifax a taste of Hollywood on a night out in the West Yorkshire town.

The 75-year-old booked out restaurant Ricci’s Place.

Boss Olivia Ricci had kept the visit by the star, whose hits include Goodfellas,

Taxi Driver and Once Upon a Time in America, a secret.

She said they were asked to cater for him “five or six weeks ago”, adding: “We just said we’ve got a private dinner for a special person. He was very humble and said he loved the food.”

De Niro went on to do an interview on his life and career, at the Royal Armouries in Leeds, where he signed a painting of himself as Taxi Driver psycho Travis Bickle.

He was the second Hollywood A-lister in Yorkshire this month. Former wrestler Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson went to a gym in Doncaster last week. With a fan
