FELL IN LINE WITH THE FURIOUS REDS’ FANS

- BY DAVID McDONNELL

MAROUANE FELLAINI says Manchester United’s players understand the frustrations of their fans over the team’s struggles.

United laboured to a 1-0 win over Swiss champions Young Boys, with Fellaini (right) grabbing the 91st-minute winner that secured Jose Mourinho’s side’s place in the last 16.

It was the first goal

United have scored at home in three

Champions League ties this season and the hard-fought win came on the back of last weekend’s drab 0-0 draw with Crystal Palace at Old Trafford.

United have scored just 11 goals in 10 home games this season, compared to 29 at the same stage last term, with Fellaini acknowledging the right of their fans to voice their dismay. Asked if it was hard for the Reds’ players to play against a backdrop of disillusionment and anger from the fans, Fellaini said: “Of course it’s frustrating, but that’s football. “They come, they pay for their tickets and they want to see good football. But the spirit was good, and we have to look forward with a lot of hunger. We are a team, we are together and we give everything. “Together we have to move forward and take points. The team is confident now and we have to stay positive, to play positive football, like we did on Tuesday.

“We have to keep this spirit and look forward. We play positive, score goals and show supporters how we want to make them happy. We have an important game on Saturday at Southampton, we’ll try to get the three points and focus on that now.”
