Vardy’s fit for a start at Foxes
JAMIE VARDY will start for Leicester on Saturday after boss Claude Puel insisted he only benched the striker for his own “protection”.
The Foxes’ title-winning hero was stunned to be rested last month against West Ham after declaring himself fully fit.
Vardy was recalled but then only a sub at Brighton last weekend where he scored from the spot after coming on in the 56th minute after missing training with a knock.
He returned to the starting line-up for Tuesday’s League Cup win over Southampton, when he was on target in the shoot-out win.
And boss Puel has since confirmed Vardy, 31, who has four goals this term, will lead the attack at home to Watford.
Puel said: “It will be a good thing if he can start on Saturday.
“It was a good opportunity to give him game-time in the second half at Brighton against a tiring team – but we have to protect our players and maintain them.
“Now it is normal he can start and finish the game.”
Earlier this season Vardy’s wife Rebekah liked Tweets criticising Puel.
