aRoofer Daniel Matthews targeted an 84-year-old, saying the spray foam insulation in her loft needed replacing, even though it was only eight months old.

The 50-year-old from Bournemouth was jailed for 22 months for fraud and must also pay £15,000 in costs and compensation, in a prosecution brought by Dorset Trading Standards.

“Cases like these emphasis how vital it is for all of us to be alert to this sort of behaviour and to look out for our relatives and neighbours,” said councillor Andrew Parry.

I would never advise anyone to install spray foam insulation – it covers your roof timbers and can prevent you spotting and tackling any leaks or rot.
