Warnings on Xmas fire risk
A CHARITY is urging people to be aware of fires over Christmas, with old, poorly wired lights and naked flames posing a risk.
Overloading sockets, not turning lights off at night and forgetting to water real trees can also cause blazes.
Last year, home fires rose 22% in December.
Emma Drackford, of charity Electrical Safety First, said: “Station your tree away from heat sources such as radiators and never leave lights on when you leave the house.”
