The Wyvill Arms in Constable Burton, N Yorks PUB landlords are being warned to look out for a hard-drinking con man who racks up huge bills then flees without paying.

Three have been fleeced by a guest, with debts totalling around £1,000 for rooms, food and drink.

In the latest spree the restaurant tab alone for one day was £195.50, including 14 vodkas, four glasses of wine and a bottle of prosecco.

Nigel Stevens, of the Wyvill Arms in Constable Burton, North Yorks, said: “I couldn’t believe he was still standing. I’d advise other pubs and hotels to be on their guard.”

The swindler had booked two nights at the Wyvill, arriving on November 17, but left the next day claiming his wife had failed to turn up and he was going to meet her.

BOOZY

His bill totalled £335. The man, driving a blue Vauxhall Corsa, is tall, has a large build with strawberryblond hair and is in his late 20s.

A boozy guest thought to be him also ran up a £500 bill – £100 on lager – at the White Horse in Ripon on November 12-16. Using the wife excuse, he said his boss would pay.

Officers are probing if he went from the Wyvill to Countryman’s Inn in Hunton, where a man failed to settle up for a November 18 stay.

North Yorkshire Police said: “Inquiries are ongoing to identify the man and establish if the two incidents are connected.”
