Trans priest blazes new Church trail
FIRST Rev Sarah John A TRANSGENDER priest is the newest vicar in the Church in Wales.
Rev Sarah John, 56, was born male and married a woman aged 20 before changing gender.
She is the first Anglican priest to do this before being ordained – and will now lead services at the medieval St John the Baptist Church in Cardiff.
Sarah said: “I knew from the age of six or seven that I was more one of the girls than one of the boys.”
Londoner Sarah says the “most hurtful” thing would be to call her by her birth name, which she does not want to reveal.
She says she is still friends with her ex-wife.
Sarah, who has dealt with online trolls, hopes she “gives strength” to other transgender people.
Jamal’s father outside his boy’s school THE Syrian boy filmed being attacked has been flooded with support since the footage emerged, and told wellwishers: “Thanks for everything.”
The 15-year-old, who can only be named Jamal, yesterday appeared in public as a fund for him hit £135,000.
He greeted a crowd of around 30 outside Almondbury Community School in Huddersfield, West Yorks.
A 16-year-old boy has been reported for summons for an offence of assault ahead of a youth court appearance over last month’s attack.
Imam Mohammed Pandor said: “We’re confident the school is taking this very seriously.” But Jamal told ITV: “Sometimes I say to my dad, ‘I don’t want to go to school any more’.”
His family may sue English Defence League founder Tommy Robinson for telling followers Jamal was involved in an earlier attack on a girl pupil. The girl’s mum posted: “It was not him.”
