Rescuers find dog used as bait in fights

WOUNDS Abandoned Peggy A DOG used as bait in fights is recovering after being found close to death.

Abandoned Peggy had bleeding paws, ulcerated eyes and torn ears when rescuers found her.

Thought to be a whippet bull-breed cross, she could not stand and had a “haunted look”.

Peggy, thought to be four, was taken to the Carla Lane Animals In Need shelter in Liverpool.

A spokesman said: “Her poor body could not take much more – she was close to giving up.

“She has had repeated injuries and long-standing wounds.

“She is typical of the kind of mixed breed who is attractive to dog fighters.”

Experts say her injuries are consistent with her being used as “bait” .
