RALPH BREAKS THE INTERNET
Cert PG Running time 112 minutes ★★★
Nostalgia – along with some nicely judged in-jokes – is the key to this Disney animated romp that’s packed with high energy, bright whirling colour and a whole lot of good-natured musing about the nature of friendship.
It’s been six years since Ralph (voiced by John C Reilly), the hulking ‘villain’ of fictional arcade game Fix-It Felix Jr, decided to rebel against his coding and became a hero.
This sequel sees him channel his heroic nature again as he and best pal Princess Vanellope (Sarah Silverman) head off into the mysterious ‘Internet’ to try and reach a place called Paypal to buy a part for the arcade game where Vanellope is a top racing driver.
This animated web is a frenetic and frantic place packed with official brands (and a few fake ones).
Once inside, the friends figure out that the best way to make money is for Ralph to become a BuzzTube (one of the fake ones) star where ‘likes’ translate into money.
Funny, touching and with a great sequence involving Vanellope bonding with all of the Disney princesses, Ralph Breaks the Internet is warm-hearted animated fun.
