- BY MIKE WALTERS @MikeWaltersMGM BY SIMON BIRD

NEWCASTLE chief scout Steve Nickson will fly to the United States next week as Toon step up their bid to land Miguel Almiron from MLS side Atlanta.

The attacking midfielder (below) will cost around £25million, so Newcastle will have to break their transfer record to land the 24-year-old who can play the No.10 role or raid from the flanks.

Almiron’s agent as already visited St James’ Park this season and Newcastle want to be in prime position to make an early move.

The Geordies and Fulham are weighing up January bids for Nottingham Forest’s Joe Lolley, 26. The winger has been in fine form under Aitor Karanka this season.
