NUNO: I SWEAR WE’RE PALS NOW

- BY DAVE ARMITAGE

NEIL WARNOCK has been promised warm birthday wishes from the man he told to ‘F*** off’ live on TV.

Wolves boss Nuno Espirito Santo will be the first to offer his congratulations although the two clashed on the ARSENE WENGER

“I went to the Emirates for my 1,000th game. I like Wenger and we were stood in the centre-circle before the game, just me and him (right). He is massive – you don’t realise how tall. It was the first time I had been to the Emirates and I said to him,

‘Arsene, look at your dugouts, they’re miles away from each other – you’ll not hear me today’. “I’ll never forget, he took a deep breath, looked at one dugout, slowly scanned across to the other and said, ‘You will find a way!’.” THOSE YOUTUBE RANTS

“I haven’t watched myself back for ages, but I used to. I need to cringe a little bit at myself from time to time.

“We all do things when we are younger that you think you learn from. I am a passionate Yorkshireman and sometimes saying what I say costs me money. I know that. But I don’t think I can change at my age. “The people I manage know that they might get a rocket off me from time to time – usually when they deserve it. But five minutes after the game, it’s gone. Sharon? If she is upset with me, it will be silent movies for three days. I get punished that way.”

“I was 55 when I got the Sheffield United job and thought the way forward was clear. “Make them the best team in Sheffield, then in Yorkshire, then get them in the Premier League. Then I could retire. But it was probably one of the most disappointing pitch after their bitter Championship promotion battle back in April.

Warnock raged that the Portuguese boss (right) needed to learn some manners and labelled him a “disgrace” after times of my life after we got promoted at Sheffield. We were having a celebration dinner with all the team awards and then, just before it, I got a letter in the post saying the club were going to take my option up on the same financial terms I was on. “I remember Sharon crying because it was like saying they did not want me. When I had signed my contract, I did what I always did and trusted Kevin would sort it out. I have shaken the hands of a few chairmen over the years and it has cost me a few million.”

“I got a job in the bowling alley, oiling the lanes at night and teaching the ladies in the morning. And it’s not what you know, it’s who you know – and being in the right place at the right time. Cliff Mason, a former Sheffield United player who was now playing for Chesterfield, came in to pick up his wife after her lesson one day and she put in a word for me. ‘I’ll get you a trial,’ he said. “Then I will never forget Mick Varney was the good winger at Chesterfield and I had only been there a few weeks when he told the manager Reg Wright that he had booked a holiday at Butlins and would be missing the first two games of the season. I got in the team, played well and never looked back.”

“I was a good chiropodist and gave value for money. The chap I bought the surgery from charged £2 per foot. When I came in and charged £8, the old ladies used to say, ‘Mr Warnock, that’s a lot of money’. I said I’d do it free that day and if they don’t want me I could recommend some cheaper options. But they all kept coming. If you give people value for money, they will come back.” foregoing the traditional handshake at the end of the 1-0 defeat.

But Nuno said: “I respect him. We’ve spoken since and I will shake his hand before and after. I will congratulate him on his birthday the following day.” The teams meet in Cardiff tonight with Wolves licking their wounds from Sunday’s 2-0 defeat by Huddersfield.

Nuno said: “That was clearly a very, very bad performance and I’m looking for a reaction.”
