De Gea WON’T sign new United deal until he gets guarantees about Jose’s future and the top salary

- EXCLUSIVE BY DAVID ANDERSON

DAVID DE GEA wants to know if Jose Mourinho will still be Manchester United boss next season before he signs a new deal. United have taken up their option to extend the Spain keeper’s current contract by one year until June 2020, while talks over a new agreement remain deadlocked.

De Gea is happy at Old Trafford and is prepared to commit his future to the club, but wants to see what direction the Reds will take first.

He is keen to win the big titles – including the Champions League – and

has lifted just one Premier League crown since joining United in 2011.

United’s league title bid fizzled out early this term and he wants to see them challenge for top honours again like they did under Sir Alex Ferguson.

Another sticking point for De Gea, 28, is his salary and he wants to be paid the same as the club’s top earner Alexis Sanchez, who earns around £500,000 a week including all of his bonuses.

De Gea is understood to have rejected an improved offer from United of about £275,000 a week.

He has been one of United’s best players during his eight seasons at Old Trafford and wants his wages to reflect that.

United activated the 12-month option in De Gea’s deal to prevent foreign sides from being able to talk to him from January 1 because he would have been a free agent next summer – with Juventus and Paris Saint-Germain interested.
