Harry’s Sandra:
I’m embarrassed he keeps talking about me... but I really do miss him
SANDRA Redknapp admits it is “quite embarrassing” when hubby Harry says romantic things about her on telly – but adds: “I miss him terribly.” Footballer boss Harry has spoken many times in the jungle camp of how much he loves Sandra, making their 54-year relationship an unlikely feature of I’m a Celeb.
Now, in her first-ever interview, Sandra has described it as “flattering” but said it can be hard to watch.
She flew into Brisbane Airport yesterday with granddaughter Molly, both looking fresh despite a 15-hour flight from Dubai. Sandra said she doubted that 71-yearold Harry would be “changed” by his jungle experience but admitted she had been surprised by some of the things she had seen him doing.
She said: “Will he be a new man? I doubt he will change, after 54 years I can’t see him changing much now. We’ll soon find out when he comes home.
“He’s never cleaned the toilet at home or even the sink, so I’m surprised to see him clean the dunny. And when he did the floss I really couldn’t believe it, the only other time I saw him dance was when we got married.”
On Harry being an old romantic at heart, she added: “It has been quite hard to watch him.
“He doesn’t realise everybody is hearing him say things and talking about me, it’s quite embarrassing really.
“He doesn’t realise that all the public are seeing him say things, which is very nice. It’s very flattering.”
Sandra and Molly – who was responsible for persuading Harry to sign up for the show – now face a wait of up to 10 days at the Palazzo Versace
Hotel until they see him again, depending how far he gets. Sandra added: “I miss him terribly. I didn’t realise they take your phone off you in the first week before the show starts, so he rang me to say, ‘I can’t speak to you any more’. That was hard.
“I think he has what it takes to be king of the jungle, hopefully. He won’t realise the impact he’s had.”
Harry has had a number of trials in camp, including drinking the liquid from fish eyes with his new pal Noel Edmonds, 69.
Sandra said: “I was quite surprised that they would get on so well. They’re different characters. I couldn’t bear looking at the fish eyes one. I think he imagined it was a glass of red.
“I did think about his breath. I hope he’ll brush his teeth before he comes out.” Harry shocked viewers when he showed his soft side and likened his relationship with Sandra, who he met as a teenage player with West Ham in a London pub, to “winning the lottery”.
In a chat with X Factor star Fleur East and Corrie’s Sair Khan, Harry, who has sons Jamie and Mark with Sandra, said: “Even when I’m out I ring her 10 times a day. She’s my life.”
