Jonny: The brilliant team spirit among the Foxes reminds me of good old days at Old Trafford

JONNY EVANS says the character and fight of Leicester’s side reminds him of his glory days with Manchester United.

The Foxes have come together in the wake of the devastating loss of chairman Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha in a helicopter crash.

The tragedy has heightened determination at the 2016 Premier League champions to have another successful season.

They are unbeaten in three league games since the disaster and also progressed to the League Cup quarter-finals in midweek.

Leicester host Watford today having battled back to draw at Brighton despite having James Maddison sent off in the 28th minute when 1-0 down. ExUnited defender Evans, 30 who joined in the summer from relegated West Brom, said: “It is great to be part of a team which shows character. It has been amazing.

“I don’t think I have been involved in a unit which has been so together in terms of their fight and how close they are on and off the pitch.

“It is really refreshing to see. The players here have been through a lot over the years. Obviously winning the league sparked something special in this football club.

“You can see it amongst the lads and they are continuing to carry that spirit.

“Whenever you experience success as a team it is always going to bring you closer together – I experienced that at Manchester United.

“Spirits are high and team spirit is going to be high and it is great to get back into that at a club like this.”

Evans has started every game since replacing Harry Maguire when the England defender came off injured at Cardiff on November 3.

Losing Maguire to a knee injury has been a blow but his absence has been cushioned by Evans’ outstanding form.

Evans, who has 76 caps for Northern Ireland, added: “It feels really weird because you never do feel old but I am reminded by the lads and I have my 31st birthday coming up.

“I am enjoying that role of being the experienced guy.”

Evans, who won the Premier League three times and League Cup twice after coming through the ranks at Old Trafford, added: “The aim of the club is to get into Europe and push to get a trophy.

“That is what a club like this should be aiming for.”
