VROOM 101

Glenn Murray has scored more than a century of goals for the Seagulls and even at the age of 35 has no plans to slow down..

GLENN MURRAY says it is a burning desire to prove everybody wrong that is driving him on to score goals in the Premier League at the age of 35.

Brighton striker Murray has seven goals already this season, including six in seven games at the Amex.

Another one at Huddersfield today could put him level with Sergio Aguero and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang at the top of the goalscoring charts.

He would also be ahead of Raheem Sterling, Eden Hazard, Mo Salah and Harry Kane, none of whom play until tomorrow.

That’s almost £400million worth of combined talent in the current transfer market being outperformed by a veteran who cost the Seagulls just £4m from Bournemouth.

But the Albion legend, who has 101 goals for the club, has no thoughts about slowing down.

“I just want to carry on as long as I can and score goals,” he said. “Once you get to a certain age, there’s a real determination to stay there as everybody starts to doubt you because of your age instead of your physical attributes.

“So, I think it’s a mental thing, that you’re determined to prove people wrong.”

Murray recently agreed a year-long extension to his contract on the south coast, meaning he should still be playing Premier League football in the run-up to his 37th birthday.

But with Spanish defender Bruno – who is 38 – also at the club, he has a good role model to follow.

“Bruno is amazing and just lives a very professional life,” added Murray. “He’s very dedicated to what he does.

“He’s definitely somebody I look up to and want to emulate in the coming years.

“We all try and look after ourselves throughout our career. But it becomes more important and more beneficial as you get older. You are always changing things and trying to get that edge.”

Brighton go to Huddersfield sitting 12th in the table, five points ahead of the Terriers and with an opportunity to move into the top 10, if they can snatch victory.

But the Seagulls will be without injured winger Alireza Jahanbakhsh and suspended midfielder Dale Stephens.
