MAYA: SAINTS KIDS CAN RISE TO CHALLENGE

- BY NEIL McLEMAN

MAYA YOSHIDA insisted the players have to take “responsibility” for Southampton now being the only Premier League club not to win at home this season.

The Saints gave league debuts to teenagers Michael Obafemi and Yan Valery, but it ended up the same old story. They have now thrown away 12 points from winning positions this season and remain in the drop zone.

“Of course the players are all behind Mark Hughes,” said Yoshida (above). “I understand the manager is having a difficult moment. But also the players have difficult moments.

“As a team we have to be as one. We have to take the responsibility. Every single player has to take the responsibility.

“We have another difficult game against Spurs on Wednesday. It is a massive test for us. But I feel like we are building good confidence.

“This point will be really important at the end of the season I think. I still believe we are a much better team than this.”
