Jordan holds his hands up ...again

- BY DAVID ANDERSON

JORDAN PICKFORD held his hands up for the 96th-minute howler which gave Everton more derby heartbreak.

The England No.1 (above) apologised to team-mates and fans but vowed he will bounce back from his gaffe, which presented Divock Origi (below) with a simple winner.

Pickford said: “I just want to say sorry to the

Everton fans because I know how much it means to them.

“I think it is the

Everton luck when we come to Anfield. There’s nowt I can do about it now. I’m strong mentally and I will get over it.

“It was a freak one, really. It had hit the bar twice and I tried to flick it over. The ball spun and as I tried to flick it over, my hand hit the bar. It’s unfortunate, but I am strong mentally and I will be ready for Newcastle on Wednesday.”

Blues boss Marco Silva (above) backed Pickford and claimed his side did not deserve to lose because of their positive performance which saw them create several chances.

“All the support I can give to Jordan, I will,” he said. “He is a very good goalkeeper. He did not expect that situation.

“It was a lucky, lucky day for Liverpool. I’m proud of my players, proud of how we performed this afternoon.

“I think the draw would have been the fairer result. They didn’t deserve it and I think it’s clear to everyone we didn’t deserve that result, but that’s football.”
