JUST WAY TO GO, JEZ

-

LAW Centres within easy reach of every community are reassuring evidence Labour’s thinking of more than Brexit.

Filling gaps in the existing patchy network, opening new legal bureaus and training the next generation of socially aware lawyers, went down well when presented to the Shadow Cabinet.

The policy is the brainchild of Richard Burgon, Jeremy Corbyn’s Justice Secretary-inwaiting and a former solicitor with union firm Thompsons.

Publicly-funded Law Centres taking up the cases of the abused and mistreated can swing the scales of justice back in favour of the downtrodden otherwise ignored by wealthy and powerful interests.

As Burgon put it neatly to me: “Our hard-won rights aren’t worth the paper they’re written on if people can’t enforce them against dodgy landlords, bad bosses and against inhumane and incorrect decisions made by the DWP and the Home Office.”

Equality before the law requires the many to be represented properly against the privileged few.
