Netflix and bill
NETFLIX must pay acceptable taxes in Britain on profits made in Britain.
It is right that HM Revenue and Customs investigate the accounts of the fast-growing streaming service.
Netflix, like other internet giants turning a profit here, succeed because our taxes educate employees, create customers, fund services and finance infrastructure in the economy within which firms prosper.
If Netflix has nothing to hide, it has nothing to fear. But if our country loses out when profits are channelled to the Netherlands then the makers of hit shows such as The Crown should face The British Crown – in court.
