‘Fine posties over elastic band waste’
LITTER Load of elastic bands ECO warrior Paul Brown has collected 10,000 elastic bands dropped by posties – and now wants to see them fined for littering.
Paul, 48, has collected them over six years and has called on Royal Mail to be slapped with an £80 littering fine for each, totalling £800,000.
Furious Paul, from Wallasey, Merseyside, said: “Hedgehogs get caught up, it often kills them.”
Postie Karen McLean said: “Believe me, we don’t do it intentionally.”
Royal Mail said their bands start to biodegrade after a year outdoors, but added: “We recognise they present a threat to wildlife.” ■ Author Martin Dorey, 51, of Bude, Cornwall, found that his book “No. More. Plastic.” was distributed in the US wrapped in plastic.
