– ADRIAN CHILES ON HIS BREAKFAST TV FLOP

- BY NICOLA METHVEN TV Editor

ADRIAN Chiles admits he was a huge embarrassing flop on earlybird show Daybreak because he is “hopeless” in the mornings.

Chiles, 51, who was sacked by ITV in 2011, confesses to having “failed humiliatingly” after being unable to cope with the dawn starts – and looking like a sack of spuds.

But he insists he would now make a great chat show host if he ever gets another chance because he has learned from the experience.

He says: “I failed abominably. I’m just hopeless in the mornings.

“I can exist, I don’t mind being up – I just don’t like talking to anyone. I looked miserable, I was sullen, I sat Co-hosts Christine and Adrian there like a bag of potatoes. And I dragged everyone down with me the minute I walked in at 5am.”

Brummie broadcaster Chiles makes his frank admission in BBC2’s I’ll Get This, in which celebrity diners compete in parlour games to get out of having to pick up the bill for slap-up meals. Talking about his move to Daybreak from BBC1’s The One Show, in which he was followed by co-host Christine Bleakley, he says: “On The One Show we were pulling in five million viewers and had Roger Moore asking to come on.

“But you don’t learn from success, you learn from failure. For a huge amount of money, and a big hullaballoo, I went to ITV to do Daybreak. At which I was s***.

“I know what it is to succeed and I know what it is to fail dismally.”

Chiles, now at Radio 5 Live, earns applause from fellow contestants Josh Widdicombe, Holly Walsh, Gemma Collins and Melvin Odoom as they try to dodge a £655 tab in I’ll Get This, which airs tonight at 10pm.
