Give Meghan the chance to adapt

-

■ I’M not a royalist, but after reading your article, ‘Is moody Meghan losing her sparkle?’ (Mirror, Dec 1), I’m curious as to how she will cope and be supported in her new role.

The royals and the public should give her a chance as she’s an American and from a different background.

She probably thinks she has to prove herself, and her only family support is her mother who lives thousands of miles away. She must be feeling that, now she is expecting her first child.

Meghan is a mature woman who has sacrificed a successful career and her independence for love and, who knows, there might be some jealousy from other royals involved? Kathy Gentle-Green, South London

■ I wasn’t at all surprised to read your item about Meghan’s apparent “imperious” attitude in her new royal status. After all, this is a woman who is willing to cut off her own father because he doesn’t “fit” into her new life. I must admit I haven’t warmed at all to Meghan, who seems to enjoy the limelight a bit too much. Reports last week about the possible £5million security costs for Meghan and Harry’s new home won’t help her cause either. Patricia Nunn, Plymouth

■ Meghan has only been married a few months and it seems the backlash has already started. Give her a break. She is a newcomer who is not even from this country and has a lot to get used to. She is probably just trying to make a good impression. I, for one, think Meghan is coping extremely well and I wish her all the best. She and Prince Harry are like a breath of fresh air for the royals and this country.

■ This country never ceases to amaze me. Recent reports that Prince Harry’s and Meghan’s new home could cost the taxpayer £5million or more in security costs are a farce when you consider the police force’s depleted resources.

If the royals choose to move into larger homes they should also bear the additional costs.

After all, we as members of the public have to. It’s about time this country recognised its priorities. ■ Meghan should slow down a bit and find her feet. The ‘go-getter’ style is very much the American way, but it won’t suit our royals who have their own way of doing things.

She should also be mindful of stepping on the Duchess of Cambridge’s toes.

Mandy Craig, Belvedere, Kent

■ The royals seem to assume everyone is in love with them and that we are happy to support their lifestyles. Well, I and many others are not – by a long way. I would like to see the reported £5million security costs for Harry and Meghan’s new house spent on the homeless instead.

George Angus, Tyneside

■ It really is time we stopped throwing money at the royals.

Of course they do work for a living by going on all these tours to beautiful places. I really don’t wish them any harm, but they could use some of their millions to pay their own way.
