Time to move upstairs, Sparky
I SAID a few weeks ago that Mark Hughes would be better suited as a director of football at a big, progressive club than as a manager.
And following his sacking by Southampton I would like to see him go down that route now, or into some sort of football administration role within UEFA or FIFA. Hughes (left) is an intelligent man who has played and managed at very high levels and has so much to offer the game.
For Southampton, they also need to make a big decision about what kind of club they are now.
They need to be more ambitious, stop selling their best players and hire a manager who will get them into Europe in the next four or five years without wanting to jump ship as Mauricio Pochettino and Ronald Koeman did.
If they don’t change it will catch up with them and they will go down.
